Once upon a time, a man considered to be the best friend of my mentor stole $250,000 from him.
That's a lot of money now, but back then, it was all he had.
He just had a kid, and with very little money coming in, that $250,000 was his entire safety net.
And just like that… it was gone.
Poof.
Not only did he lose his safety net, but he was also about to fall into a debt of around $80,000. Now, imagine yourself in his situation, what'd you do? If your answer doesn't relate to giving up, crying, or feeling sorry for yourself - it's great. Mentally, it’s totally fine because…
… you soon figure out that that ONE THING isn’t so magical after all and you just find your bravery and move on.
In the beginning, so right when it happens, it feels like your world is falling apart. Everything is hopeless and it’s sad and it sucks and there’s no hope. The more often you get your nuts kicked by life, the quicker you come back from these events.
After a couple of rides on the ‘life kicks you in the nuts train’ you realize that you always live through it and you’re stronger for it.
We used to have this saying in the office. It’s a little dark so don’t judge me for it. But we used to say when something really really really bad happened…
‘You’ll laugh about it in 5 years. So might as well laugh about it now’
Whatever happens to your story… you'll live. And if you don’t… the problem is solved as well.
But in every story, you have this moment where the hero is at his lowest point. I mean it can't possibly get anyyyyy worse than this. From then on out - it gets better, it's like a rebirth. Probably want to do that and focus on it. Imagine a bell curve for a moment, when it reaches the bottom - probably the only way is up.
Unless you become a loser alcoholic and you give up. that's also possible. Can also be lame and weak, feel sorry for yourself, and cry like a coward. Man up already, let's get to work instead of whining and crying. "Uuuh, it's not fair" No, it's not, but take the universe apart, atom by atom - try to find a 1 atom of fair. That's the way it is. It's never going to be fair and it's great. It's not supposed to be fair, do it anyway.
